In her photography book and project “Strawberry Jam”, Sybilla Patrizia explores the fetishisation of and obsession with youthfulness in contemporary Japanese mainstream culture which is expressed, for example, in the performance of various cute aesthetics by some underage and adult women along with female media representations in advertisements, manga or video games. This series aims to show the craze for youth and cuteness from a variety of sub- and mainstream cultures; from the intricate world of lolita and decora girls in Harajuku, to the fixation of Japanese media with the school girl character and her uniform, as well as popular cosmetic beauty ideals which aim to make women appear younger and cuter.
