In her work, Sybilla Patrizia has covered social, cultural and political topics such as the struggles of the Tibetan Diaspora in Northern India, Hong Kong’s Umbrella Revolution, the stigmatization of menstruation in Japanese society and the LGBTQ+ community in Tokyo.
Sybilla is currently developing a feature-length documentary entitled PLASTIC LOVE!, which deals with Japan’s obsessive addiction to plastic and which was featured in HERMÈS’ Social Good Book.
Her documentary A Bloody Taboo about the stigma against menstruation in Japanese society, won the Excellent Film Award at Tokyo Docs and premiered at Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival.
In 2022, Sybilla Patrizia shot the cover of the Financial Times’ HTSI Magazine, featuring Japan’s best-selling female author Mieko Kawakami and UNCENSORED, a documentary about child abuse in Japanese manga which aired on the Emmy Award-winning show VICE on Showtime.
Sybilla’s work has been published by the BBC, VICE , NHK, AnOther Magazine, the Financial Times, adidas and others.
