In her work, Sybilla Patrizia has covered social, cultural and political topics such as the struggles of the Tibetan Diaspora in Northern India, Hong Kong’s Umbrella Revolution, the stigmatization of menstruation in Japanese society and the LGBTQ+ community in Tokyo.

Sybilla is currently developing a new, feature-length documentary entitled PLASTIC LOVE!, which deals with Japan’s obsessive addiction to plastic and which was featured in HERMÈS’ Social Good Book. Her documentary “A Bloody Taboo” about the stigma against menstruation in Japanese society, won the Excellent Film Award at Tokyo Docs and premiered at Ji.Hlava International Documentary Film Festival.

In 2022 Sybilla Patrizia shot the cover of the Financial Times’ HTSI Magazine, featuring Japan’s best-selling female author Mieko Kawakami.

Her work has been published by the BBCVICE , NHK, AnOther Magazine, Financial Times and Showtime, and has been exhibited across Europe, the US and Japan.

Sybilla is also the founder of WHEN IN TOKYO -  a dedicated online guide to Tokyo’s best art, design and architecture.
